Melton Borough Council Fights Housing Proposals
Melton Borough Council says it will do all it can to prevent a housing proposal in Bottesford from going ahead.
A proposal for 50 houses at the 'Old Claypits' site on Grantham Road, Bottesford was refused permission by Melton's planning committee in August but the developers have appealed to the Secretary of State.
This is to be heard by a Public Inquiry to be held in the Village Hall in Bottesford on 21st - 23rd February. A Government Inspector will run the Inquiry and he has been sent all of the objections the Council received. The Inquiry will be open for the public to attend.
Permission was refused because the site is outside the village envelope and would mean an extension into the countryside surrounding the village. In addition, Melton has been consistently managing the amount of housing land available in the Borough in accordance with Government requirements to have 5 years land available at any given point in time. As a result there is no demand for extra land, either in Bottesford or more generally.
