Sandbag Return

For the attention of residents in flood risk areas.  Would recipients please pass this information to friends who have sandbags?
Sandbag Collection: Preliminary Notice
The following strategy for sandbag collection has been agreed with Melton BC:
1    Households are free to keep, for possible future flood defence use, any sandbags they have acquired over the last 10 days do so.  However, the plastic 'sacking' used, whether white or green, will deteriorate relatively quickly when exposed to light.  Therefore unless you have a dry, dark storage facility, it isn't wise to try to store them for a long period.

2    Once the Met. Office longer term forecast suggests a period of good weather, long enough to dry the ground, we will agree a suitable date for MBC to commence the collection, and the residents of each relevant street will be informed.

3    Then, the collection will be undertaken by Verdant (that company delivered the bags to the Parish) on a street-by-street basis.  When the start date is known, NHW/Flood Wardens will inform the residents of streets with sandbags, as Verdant will collect the bags in a manner similar to the refuse and recycling collections.  Residents will need to move the bags to the roadside edge of their property, but anyone who requires physical help to move them should contact the Parish Clerk (Mrs B Taylor) on 01949 843611 well in advance of the collection date.

4    A review of the weather forecast today (Thursday, 5 July) led to the decision not to collect next week.  The next review will be in the middle of next week.  Further notices will be issued as appropriate.
