Most of you will be aware by now of the discovery of what appears to be a viable device in London during the early hours of Friday June 29.
There is nothing to suggest that Friday morning's discovery is in any way connected to Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland. However it is inevitable that this incident will generate considerable public concern across the country.
Our priority at this stage is to maintain community confidence and safety. To this end there will be increased police activity at a number of high-profile locations such as shopping centres and the city centre today and over the weekend.
It goes without saying that everyone should remain extra vigilant and report any suspicions immediately.
You can also make a real difference by helping to allay people's concerns when you're out and about.
