Stranger asking to use phone.

The have been  informed of a white male, c. 5'11" tall, calling at a house on Grantham Road, Bottesford at about 11.15 this morning, and asking to enter the house to use a phone.  The resident wisely refused the request and the caller walked off in the direction of the footpath which runs alongside the R Devon from Station Road junction.  The male was wearing old-fashioned style spectacles, a T-shirt with grey horizontal stripes and light-blue jeans.  He also had stubble on his face.

The police ask anyone who is also visited by this man to alert them immediately on 0116 222 2222.

Cold Callers

Cold-callers allegedly working for a charity are today reported as targetting parts of Bottesford and yet they were here only 2 months ago!.  All residents of the Belvoir Neighbourhood are advised to simply refuse to deal with cold callers.  This removes the question of whether any identity documents offered by the caller are genuine (most are very easily fabricated), and ensures that no personal information is given to the unknown caller (e.g. bank details in a direct debit mandate which can easily be misused by an unscrupulous person), or that the caller is able to gain access to the house.

If a resident wishes to make a donation to a charity there are other, far safer & more reliable means of doing so than passing money or bank details to a cold-caller.   Recently, hardly a week has gone by without an incident arising from cold callers being reported to the police in this Neighbourhood.
Please take care; just send them away.
