iPad Theft and recovery
08/10/11 15:06 Filed in: General Alerts
The following information has been received from Leicestershire Police:
A 34 year old man has had his stolen ipad returned to him after tracking it using the free software installed on it. The ipad was stolen from an address in Loughborough. The victim had downloaded free software called, ‘Mobile Me’ and an application called 'Find my ipad' which he activated and used to trace his ipad to a specific area in Birstall.
He then contacted the police to report the theft. Officers from the Charnwood Neighbourhood Action Team (NAT) combined information they held with the information from the tracker and were able to secure a search warrant.
On Tuesday 4th October 2011 officers executed the warrant and recovered the stolen laptop. A 25 year old man was arrested for handling stolen goods. He was given an adult caution as it was his first offence.
PC Jamie Hughes, from the Charnwood NAT, said; "I would urge all owners of ipads and the latest iphones to download the free software onto their equipment. In this case we were able to return to the laptop to a very grateful man within a matter of days so it’s got to be worth it.”

Car Exhaust Theft
03/10/11 17:01 Filed in: Local Area
We have information that thieves attempted to remove the exhaust from a car parked in Orston between the hours of 11pm-12,30am last Thursday.
The thieves, who were presumably after the catalytic converter, were disturbed and made off in a five door saloon leaving their cutting equipment behind.
If anyone was passing through Orston at that time and noticed anything unusual or suspicious please pass the information to Nottinghamshire police on 0300 300 9999.
To my knowledge there have been no other reported incidents of this kind in the area so hopefully this will be a one off. However residents parking their vehicles on the road or driveway overnight would be well advised to be extra vigilant at this time.

Burglaries Muston
20/09/11 09:09
On 15 September during the day, two burglaries happened in the village of Muston. Several flat screen TV’s and jewellery were stolen and considerable damage caused to patio doors. Around 09:30-10:30 a member of the public was travelling in a vehicle towards Muston from the A52 on Church Lane. A vehicle thought to be a ford transit pick up truck was travelling towards him from Muston in the middle of the road at speed, causing him to have to drive his vehicle into the side of the road. The witness saw there were two white males in the front of the pickup, the driver was of a stout build approx 18-19 stone wearing a country style checked shirt. The passenger was of average build.
The vehicle concerned (ford transit pick up) had a single cab, with a dark coloured pick up bed with sides thought to be black or blue no registration number taken.
